Room 1 students have been working on paper feathers early in term 2 2013 to share some of their new mātauranga (knowledge) they have they gained about this terms theme 'Matariki,' they've been writing things learnt so far about Matariki on paper feathers that adorn a kahu huruhuru (feather cloak). Rippa Rugby Training and Tournament     Posted here 05/04/2013
Waihi East School pupils had a Rippa Rugby training session at Waihi College on Wednesday 3.04.13 and on Friday 5th April fourteen yr 5/6 teams took part in this years Waihi Rippa Rugby tournament. From this competiton the two top teams gain entry in our forthcoming Thames Valley tournament which will be held in Paeroa on the 12th of April. East school entered two teams with both teams placing first in their respective pool matches. The semis saw the East Tigers go down to Waihi Central in a hard fought game and East Sharks taking out a close win over Whangamata Area School. The final resulted in another win to East Sharks this time over Central and both teams now head to Paeroa. Both East School teams did themselves proud coming first and third equal - which shows that if you put in the time, effort and hard work you will get results - lets take this lesson into the classroom now kids. Ka kite koutou, Mr Gurnick.

Hockey Tournament     Posted here 03/04/2013
Three Waihi East School teams went to the 'Hockey Big Day Out' on the 28th of March 2013 to 'have a go' at this sport at the Ngatea Domain. Our students quickly got the basics of the game worked out as this was a first for many of them and then they were away. Hamish Brown demonstrated his experience and was a stand out player. Hamish played for all three teams during the day. Even though this was a new experience for many East School players our top team went on to win all their games including a semi final. A big thank you to the parents and Miss Moz for all the great support. Ka kite koutou, Mr Gurnick.

Waihi East School Gala Photos 2013. A huge thank you to our whanau and tamariki for an outstanding gala. It looks like we have raised approximately $15,000. Our pool will get heated over the winter break, ready for early term 4 swimming.

Goat Island Bay School Camp 2013     Posted here 12/03/2013
Forty two Waihi East Primary School year 5 and 6 students along with twelve parent helpers and two teachers spent Tues 19th Feb to Thurs 20th Feb at Cape Rodney-Okakari Point (Goat Island Bay). During Thursday afternoon we travelled to Orewa Top Ten Holiday Park and set up our gear for a one night stay. Mid Thursday afternoon through to early evening we were having a wonderful time at Waiwera Thermal Resort. Friday morning we travelled south to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World in Auckland.
