Kia ora, Waihi East School is Rising Above and Shining, no actually we are showing signs of tan marks, some students are burning in the achievement heat. What a school of teaching and learning! There are stunning opportunities on offer and even better achievements being noted by students. Thank you all for your positive comments in the community, your ‘get in and do it’ attitude and trust in our staff. Our school now has 138 students on the roll. If we remain above 131 students until the 1st of June, Phil Gurnick’s position will be paid by the Ministry of Education.
Tuesday night I received an email saying that our Amazing Race Team came third in the Tauranga Schools Competition. WAHOO!! My thanks to Donna for leading our team and Angela for being support crew.
Ian Jones (ex All Black), Daniel Harcourt (Westpac Helicopter Pilot) and Maree Clark (Westpac Waihi representative) delighted our students during our special Chopper Appeal Assembly on Tuesday. We were awarded this special assembly for showing initiative in fundraising. This week senior students are making helicopter biscuits to sell for $2 each next week. Any other initiatives/fundraising leadership to bring Richie to our school would be appreciated.
Sadly Liz Travers is in the process of tendering her resignation from our school. Liz’s husband has secured a promotion in Australia. Liz has been a dynamic member of our school. We wish her whanau well in the new opportunity Australia offers. Mr. Peter Tai will be employed in Liz’s position.
To date we have raised $1700 for our raised garden. When we hit $5500 the project will get underway.
