Assessment for Learning (AFL)

Staff have under-taken an assessment contract provided by the Ministry of Education (see the slideshow below it is not automated so you will need to click to make each feature appear) which takes a light hearted look at our development using 'Assessment for Learning' - AFL). The outcome of this is student driven programmes, where children help set what is being learnt and what achievement will look like in their classroom. Children work collaboratively with our teachers and there is a shared responsibility with our learning. Children take great pride in their achievements and celebrate their learning. We aim for children at Waihi East School to be reflective learners who take initiative in developing their next learning steps. Assessment activities that monitor achievement include national testing, work samples, peer and self-assessment tasks.

'Assessment for Learning' (AFL) is our key approach to teaching and learning at Waihi East Primary School, interwoven with this is the 'Habits of Mind' (HOM) programme which develops students thinking and behavioural skills to enable them to become adaptable and proactive lifelong learners. These two areas (AFL and HOM) form the core of Waihi East Primary's educational experience. Below is a slideshow that shows our development in using 'Assessment for Learning' school wide.
